Manushi Chhillar Wins Miss World : Indian Beauty Queens Who Have Won the Title

Manushi Chhillar, a 20-year-old medical student has brought laurels to India today. She was crowned Miss World 2017 today, 17 years after Priyanka Chopra won the blue crown in 2000. Manushi Chhillar defeated 108 contestants from other countries and was crowned the new Miss World in Sanya City Arena in China. Miss World 2016 Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle crowned Manushi Chhillar and passed on the coveted crown to her. Manushi Chhillar is not the first Indian woman to have bagged the coveted title but she sure brought 17 years lean patch to an end. Manushi Chhillar also won the Head to Head Challenge and the Beauty with a Purpose titles earlier this evening. Manushi Chhillar is the 67th titleholder of Miss World and coincidently is a medical student same as the first Miss India Reita Faria who won the crown in 1966. Here is a list of all the beautiful and inspiring Indian beauty queens who have won the Miss World title.
1.Reita Faria (1966)
Reita Faria Powell won the Miss World title in 1966 and was the first Asian woman to win at the prestigious event. Born to Goan parents in Mumbai she went on to become the first Miss World winner to qualify as a doctor. After her one-year tenure as Miss World, she did not take up any further modeling or acting assignments and instead concentrated on medical studies. She was a student at the Grant Medical College & Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals and later went on to study medicine in London at King’s College Hospital. She married her mentor David Powell and shifted to Dublin where she started her medical practice.
2. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (1994)
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is probably the most famous and most beautiful Miss World title holder. She won the title in 1994. She has continuously ranked in the numerous Most Beautiful Women in The World Lists and is one of the most iconic actors of Bollywood. She is probably the most recognized Miss World ever and holds her own in the Indian film industry.
3.Diana Hayden (1997)
Diana Hayden won the title in 1997. The former Miss World is currently pregnant and expecting twins through eggs that she froze three years ago. After her tenure as Miss World, she moved to the UK to study acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. 4.Yukta Mookhey (1999)
Yukta Mookhey won the crown in 1999. She won the title on December 4, 1999, at Olympia, London. She became the fourth Indian woman to have won the crown. In 2004, Yukta Mookhey became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
5.Priyanka Chopra (2000)
Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss World in 2000 becoming the consecutive winner after Yukta Mookhey. It was a historic moment when the outgoing Miss World and the current Miss World were both from India. The actor who has become a global sensation with her Quantico series and winning accolades in Hollywood was the last Miss World from India before Manushi Chillar etched her name in the history books. Priyanka Chopra is probably the most popular Miss World from India after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who has managed to create a niche for herself.
6.Manushi Chhillar (2017)
Manushi Chhillar brought the crown home after 17 long years. A medical student from Haryana the 20-year-old managed to beat 108 contestants. She is a trained Kuchipudi dancer and is pursuing a medical degree at the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat. She has also attended the National School of Drama.
Manushi Chhillar definitely had once again brought India to the forefront by winning the Miss World beauty pageant. She brought the 17 years drought with no major title win to an end with her winning the coveted crown. The blue crown is finally home!
