Lalit Parimoo

in the picturesque Kashmir, called the Switzerland of India, on 28th September 1964. He attended the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Batwara, Jammu and Kashmir. Lalit’s academic pursuit was from Ramjas College in Delhi where he completed his graduation with Political Science.

One of his early performances, Parimoo garnered attention in the play, ‘The Expansion and the Rule’ which was a stepping stone to his illustrious career in theatre. Parimoo had portrayed complex characters in the play and had demonstrated his deep involvement in the character which earned him critical acclaim. 

Lalit Parimoo stood out in some of the plays and created an impact on his audience with the challenging roles that he enacted. Two such plays were ‘Mita Ki Kahani ‘ and ‘Mahabhoj’ in which his performances were noteworthy of appreciation. His compelling acting skills resonated with the audience.

His next show was ‘Agnigarbh’ which was based on the novel by Mahashweta Devi, which was adapting literary work on the stage. With his brilliant performance in this play, Lalit Parimoo's rendition was powerful and it highlighted his skills further. 

Another memorable play that featured Lalit Parimoo was in ‘Kabhi Na Chhoden Khet’, in ‘Shri Shri Ganesh’ and ‘Tartuffe’. He had showcased his brilliant and unique approach to each of the characters with commitment to the craft of acting.

His two other major plays were, ‘Iphigenia in Aulis’ and ‘Shweyk in World War 2’, had created an impact with his performance where his acting shone bright. He has interpreted the characters so well with sensitivity and power that he has left a lasting impression on his audience and fans. 

Career in films and television: Lalit Parimoo made his Bollywood debut in 1987 in the film ‘ Nirmaan’. His acting in films took off with more films to his credit, such as ‘Sanshodhan’, ‘Ghoonghat’ and the more popular film was ‘Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa’. He also did his television debut with the iconic television serial, ‘ Maila Aanchal’. In 1997, he acted as Sanjay in Chandra Prakash Dwivedi’s ‘Ek Aur Mahabharat’.

His foray into television also opened up an opportunity for the actor as he marked his iconic role of ‘ Dr Jackal’ in the popular TV Serial ‘Shaktimaan’ in 1997. The role itself became so popular that it became the foundation for his career which was to take off. 

Thereafter he had some notable works that people remember him for. A few of his films that got popular are ‘ Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain’, ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Haider’ in 2014, ‘Kathor’, ‘Panchlait’ and ‘What will People Say ‘ in 2017, Mubarakaran in 1017, followed by Kaanchli in 2020.

Parimoo Lalit also acted in several serials such as Virat, Kora Kaga, CID, Jhoome Jiya Re , Kesariya Balam Aavo Hamare Des, Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junonoon in 2012.

He also started working in web series like Scam in 1992 which was based on the Harshad Mehta story in 2020 and the Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley in 2023 his most recent release. 

Other interests: Lalit Parimoo is also an author and in 2014, he had published his book called ‘ Mail Manushya Hun’ which had reflected his philosophy, his insight and his journey in the world of entertainment. Mainly his acting and the book had glimpses into the mind of the actor.

His commitment to the theatre had helped him establish his own group. ‘Nat Samaj’ in Mumbai. He also founded the ‘ Lalit Parimoo Academy of Abhinay Yog’ in the year 2006. The academy promises to combine acting skills with yogic techniques and help to highlight its innovative approach in the actor training course. 

Lalit Parimoo has over the years left a lasting impact on the Indian theatre as well as in cinema and is known for his performances that have inspired the actors of different generations. His contribution to the film industry continues to resonate as he explores his new roles for his future projects. He is truly a multifaceted artist.
