With Gangs of Wasseypur, Richa Chadda made her presence felt in Bollywood but with Masaan, She established herself as an actress par excellence.

Richa Chadda had made up mind to become an actress at the age of four Since a toddler Richa loved watching films. Her favorite films were commercial masala movies like Hero No. 1 and Coolie No. 1 but her mother had a different choice. She would watch parallel cinema and was a great fan of Shyam Benegal’s films like Ankur, Mandi, Junoon etc. Little Richa who would accompany her mother and watching art movies would be confused by the difference in cinema that she watched and her mother watched. However gradually she came to parallel cinema and loved its simplicity and its message. As a child Richa began her tryst with acting by taking part in dramas in schools and would entertain her parents and relatives with her acting skills. She claims that when she was just four year old she had decided to become an actress. Richa Chadda continued theatre at college After her schooling from Delhi’s Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, she joined St. Stephen's College, Delhi and took History as subject of graduation. She even did plays with Barry John, theatre Guru, known for grooming ShahRukh Khan. While theater and TV commercials helped her survive financially in Mumbai but her efforts to tap Bolyywood was still far away. She kept auditioning for movie parts and faced dejection. Richa was most hurt when she was selected by Anurag Kashyap for Dev D but at the last movement she was replaced by Kalki Koechlin. Eventually she was spotted by Dibakar Banerjee of Khosla Ka Ghosla fame and offered a break in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!  (2008) Richa Chadda blames 26/11 attack as reason behind her poor debut Richa Chadda was quite excited when she was signed by the great filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and was very impressed by the film but alas she says the movie failed to create box office success because the film was released on 28 November, 2008; just 2 days after the deadly 26/11 attack in Mumbai. Hence the film could not help elevate her career. She had to wait another two years. Richa Chadda proved her potential with her second film Gangs of Wasseypur Richa Chadda was on the radar of Anurag Kashyap from the days of Dev D days hence when he began his movie Gangs of Wasseypur, he gave Richa Chadda a pivotal role of Nagma Khatoon, a rustic, rebellious and abuse spewing lady. Besides being a challenging role the other highlight of the role was that the role ranged from a 16 year girl to 60 year lady, which she played successfully in Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 and Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2. The movie was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 won rave reviews. The film also fetched Richa Chadda her first Filmfare Critics award thus bringing her limelight! She did not wanted to be typecast hence after lot of rejections she finally selected Akshay Kumar’s production house first film, Fukrey, a comedy drama, where Richa Chadda flaunted her sexy body and took the film critics by surprise for her striking contradiction from Ganges Of Wasseypur! Her character as feminine Don Bholi Punjaban was widely applauded by both film buffs and the critics. In fact her role was so hilarious that she won the Screen Award as Best Comedienne. Again after Fukrey she changed gears and appeared in a sensitive role of dysfunctional couple opposite Shirvastav, in Anurag Kashyap-produced film Shorts titled Epilogue!
