Ajay Devgan after completing his schooling from Silver Beach High School and after that did his graduation from Mithibai College ,after which he stepped into Hindi films. Career Ajay Devgn    began his acting career by starring in the blockbuster action movie Phool  Aur Kaante (1991)directed by Kuku Kohli  which went on to fetch him a Filmfare award for best male debut for his work. After which Ajay Devgn came up with yet another action avatar in Jigar (1992) which incidentally too was well received at that time  making it the seventh highest grossing movie of the year 1992 .After back to back macho roles Ajay Devgn made a genre  detour and   tried his hand in the romantic movie  Dil Hai Betaab (1993) a typical love triangle movie  with some shades of revenge which had nothing new to offer to the audience thus becoming his first official flop but Devgn’s performance turned out to be only saving grace for the movie .Devgn made a mark for himself rising above the mediocre script with his matured  depiction of  the  Ajay which incidentally was his characters name too  in the movie . Then Devgn moved on to Divya Shaktiman(1993)  which too had a  excellent box office run  then and he did Sangram in the same year  but could not repeat the same response .Ek Hi Raasta  ,Shaktiman ,Dhanwan and Bedardi all were his  releases of 1993 which failed to create an impact at all  . After  the repeated bombings of his action movies Devgn switched back to the romantic  genre with Dilwale (1994) along with Sunil Shetty and Raveena Tandon  which got him a break in Bollywood , his character of a man with  intellectual disability was  highly appreciated  for showcasing his acting skills in a challenging role for the first time till then .Dilwale was  a career changing movie for Devgn who went on  to do  Kanoon  which Devgn himself remembers as  one of his biggest flops of the 90”s .but then Devgn went on to act alongside Akshay Kumar  in Suhaag  which completed his initial  releases for 1994 , Suhaag was a box office hit  and became a commercial success .Ajay Devgn during this  phase was being cast mainly as the typical “man with a revenge roles  and the all virtuous macho man hero “ which was  recurring theme’ in Hindi cinema at that time .Devgn then commited for  Vijaypath for which he had to  decline the offer to play the one of the leads in Rakesh  Roshan’s epic movie Karan Arjun   which enjoys a cult audience even today  but   luckily for Devgan Vijaypath  became a  hit .   Ajay Devgan’s career witnessed a unexpected turn  of events in 1995 where he was cast by the acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in his Naajayaz opposite Juhi Chawla , this emotional drama opened up a new path for Devgan who  got nominated for best actor at Filmfare awards that year  for the very first time in his career .Hulchul , came up next which also had a moderate run .Gundaraj even though a commercial and critical failure   was a milestone movie by all means in  Devgn’s personal life as it is in the course of  that movie that he got into a relationship with his spouse to be Kajol who  afterwards became a star couple in Bollywood .Haqeeqat  was  also declared a hit next   .  Devgn went on to do other adventure movie`s like Diljale,  Jung and Jaan  which were elevating his stardom  to  a  whole new  level as of  an  action hero .Devgn paired with Aamir khan for Indra Kumar`s Ishq  which was a paisa vasool entertainer movie which got wide acclaim from all corners. By then Ajay Devgan had  been recognized as a serious actor who could pull of meaty roles too by the critics and audience alike.Zakhm ,Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam  and Major Saab were priceless additions to his filmography  .He received wide critical acclaim for the very first time in Zakhm which dealt with the socially responsible theme of communal tension in the time of Mumbai riots , for  which  Ajay Devgn got the National Film Award  for Best Actor and other Best actor awards that year  for his highly intense depiction of the protagonist who was fed up with  his own religious conflict. The year 1999 Devgn Starred in a romantic movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which was truly an unexpected turning point in Devgn’s career as of then. The Sanjay Leela  Bhansali directorial which  also featured Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan in the cast had proven the ability  of Ajay Devgn to pull off Intense emotional scenes with ease , a skill up his armour which he got to use rarely in his  earlier movies.   Then came movies like Hindustan Ki Kasam and Kachche Dhaage both becoming commercial hits back to back .after doing a successful film Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet   and began 2000’s with  a row of average hits like Yeh Raasta Hain Pyar Ke , Deewane , Raju chacha and many more . Ajay Devgn got nominated for Filmfare Best Actor and Film Critics  Awards for Best Actor that year .After the comedy Hum Kisise Kum Nahin  ,  he went on to play  the great Bhagat Singh in the film,  The Legend of Bhagat Singh  for which Ajay Devgn was praised to have lived up to the character in the best possible way bringing  him many awards including National Film Award for Best Actor though the movie failed to catch the public opinion . He further did a killer antagonist role in Deewangee which gave him much recognition. Then came Ram Gopal Varma’s critical and commercial hit Bhoot .Gangajal was Devgn’s comeback after a few  hollow attempts, directed by Prakash Jha the movie was well received. After completing Zameen he did LOC Kargil a war based film which was noted for its songs and also was the longest Indian feature film till date in terms of  duration with a running time of 255minutes .In 2004 , he had a surprise blockbuster in Khakee directed by Rajkumar Santhoshi  with an ensemble cast .Devgns next big break came in 2004 when he joined hands with maestro Mani Ratnam for Yuva  a highly successful film on campus politics  is the Hindi version of Aayutha Ezhuthu a highly  successful  Tamil movie starring Surya and Madhavan in the lead .Ajay Devgn took a huge career leap in 2004  by starring in Rain Coat by Rituparna Ghosh which was a off-beat movie which was  a  highly influential film which won Best film in Hindi National Award  that year .Devgn was praised for his eloquent portrayal of the lead. After many unsuccessful films then  came Omkara an Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello yet another critical hit and one of the best performance in the actor’s career coupled with Raincoat .After  which the comic movie franchise directed by Rohit Shetty Golmaal was a exploration of the comic timing of the actor .At this phase Ajay Devgn committed a line of commercial mindless entertainers which were commercial hits . Ajay Devgan ventured into feature filmmaking with U Me Aur Hum  along with his wife Kajol which was just a sleeper hit  . After movies like  London Dreams, Golmaal returns and more Devgn started the 2010’s with  gems like Once Upon a Time in Mumbai , Rajneeti all of which saw the return of the brilliant actor in Devgan  while also  doing commercial entertainers simultaneously like Golmaal 3, Son of Sardar  maintaining  his stardom too .Aakrosh  by Priyadarshan too had positive reviews but failed commercially .Devgn after some cameos and silent hits was cast in the Singham cinema series which gained a huge blockbuster status consistently .Devgn’s major movie of 2015 was the Hindi remake of the Malayalam blockbuster  Drishyam  which retained the original title was a strong comeback for Ajay Devgan  which had  a lasting impact. 2016 released is his directorial dream project with Shivaay  in which he played the lead role as well which had a good run at the box office .
