We welcome you to Amitabh Bachchan’s film journey. Today we will talk about his very famous film Bombay To Goa. Bombay to Goa was released in March 1972 and was directed by S Ramnathan, a remake of the 1966 Tamil hit film Madras to Pondicherry!
Bombay To Goa
also became a superhit film is a road trip film shot entirely in a bus journey
which is eventful and hilarious. The
leading stars in this film were Amitabh Bachchan, Aruna Irani, Mehmood and
Shatrughan Sinha, Keshto Mukherjee in a comic role.
We talk about
this film that is about Atmaram and his wife who are upset seeing their only
daughter Mala picture in a film magazine. Mala played by Aruna Irani whose only
desire is to join the film industry much against her parent’s wishes. They
decide to get her married off to Ramlal’s son.
She knows her pictures have been forwarded to the film magazine and she
has chances to get roles in the film, she decides to run away from home and
boards the bus bound for Goa in which Ravi Kumar essayed by Amitabh Bachchan is
also travelling. Mala before running
away from her home witnesses the killing of Verma by Sharma essayed by
Shatrughan Sinha who plays the villain in this film, both Verma and Sharma were
encouraging her to join films. Sharma is on the run now but he knows Mala has
witnessed the murder hence he overtakes the bus to kill Mala and gets in on the
same bus. Mala is petrified and Sharma
at several attempts tries to kill her, but Mala has the secret admirer in Ravi
Kumar who becomes her bodyguard who not only saves her but also protects her
throughout the journey from Bombay To Goa.
Both fall in love during their journey together.
On the other
hand, the bus journey turns out to be adventurous with a mixed bunch of
passengers from all over India, from different caste and religion, as faith
brings them together in this journey. The
entire journey shows a bus journey.
Besides the
leading stars, there are many other popular actors such as Shatrughan Sinha,
Manorama, Lalita Pawar, Junior Mehmood, Yusuf Khan, Ksheto Mukherjee to name a
few and together they are a riot in the guest appearance roles, making the journey
most memorable and hilarious with turn of events through the journey.
The songs had
some of the most famous songs and lyrics like ‘Dekha na Haay Re’ ‘Bom Bombay
Goa’ and the song was to be shot in a moving bus which was quite tough but
seeing the enthusiastic costars it was a lot of fun but the scene was finally
shot in a studio. The director of the
film Mehmood who compelled Amitabh Bachchan to dance. He was a big support to Big B and the film
went on to become one of the classic hit films.
Mehmood was also one of the co-producers of the film. After this film
that went on to be a super hit, Amitabh Bachchan gave many more super hit films
thereafter.
