Friends we welcome you to one more new episode on Amitabh Bachchan’s filmy journey and today we will bring to you his film Bandhe Hath which means Tied Hands. The film was released in 1973, produced and written by O P Ralhan and stars Amitabh Bachchan with Mumtaz as his leading lady. In supporting roles are Ajit, Ranjeet, Madan Puri, Asit Sen, O.P. Ralhan, TunTun, Pinchoo Kapoor to name a few.

The music for this film is rendered by R D.Burman and the lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The film is a remake of Mujrim of 1958 where in Shammi Kapoor was in the lead role. 

This is a story of a small time thief Shyamu who makes his living by stealing and robberies.  Amitabh in the role of the thief. Being a robber he is always on the run from the police and one day lands up in a village where he finds his look alike, a simpleton Deepak who is a poet.   Shyamu has a wicked mind and decides to take advantage of his look alike and he kills him to steal his identity. But changes his mind when he learns that Deepak is already dying of an illness.  After his death he decides to be Deepak and give the police a run by stating Shyamu has died. However, the police inspector finds it suspicious and is masked as poet Deepak.

 

He brings about the change in his life to become a good human being due to his love interest, Mala, essayed by actress Mumtaz who is a beautiful dancer and stage artist and they fall in love. However, he learns Deepak the poet also had his love angle Raini and they had exchanged love letters which he wants to get hold of to avoid being caught by the cops. He turns himself into a new leaf but Mala finds out that he is also meeting Raini. With a few confusing scenes, misunderstandings but the film ends with a story to the public that evolves as an eye opener, a transformation of human being from the world of crime to becoming a good human being and his re-acceptance in the real world.  The film was a classic but not many have heard of this pair Amitabh Bachchan with Mumtaz who did most of her roles with Mehmood and Rajesh Khanna.
