Actor Mehmood and Amitabh Bachchan’s friendship is very famous in the film industry. Both of them have been extremely close friends. It was Mehmood who gave Amitabh Bachchan his first break in his film Bombay to Goa which did extremely well, after which Amitabh Bachchan signed Zanjeer and with its tremendous success, there was no looking back for Amitabh Bachchan. He rose to greater heights with successful films one after another. His success rate was so high that he was called the legendary superstar of Bollywood.
But his success did not stop him from being grateful to Mehmoood for giving him his first successful break. Every time Mehmood had a film that required Amitabh Bachchan to do a guest appearance he did it free of charge. In his film Kunwara Baap, there is a guest appearance by Amitabh Bachchan which he had done free for his friend Mehmood.
When Mehmood’s films started flopping after Kunwara Baap, he had lot of financial trouble and it was Amitabh Bachchan who bailed him out to help him financially. He also recommended Mehmood to many directors which helped Mehmood to improve his financial condition. Amitabh though a very successful superstar always respected Mehmood and both had lot of love and respect for each other. Then what was the reason that actor Mehmood was upset and angry on Amitabh Bacchan?
Mehmood in one of his interviews mentioned that once Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivansh Rai Bachchan fell ill, Mehmood reached his residence to inquire about his father’s health and within few months Mehmood fell ill and was admitted at the Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Coincidentally Amitabh Bachchan’s father was also admitted in the same hospital. Amitabh Bachchan had visited his father and soon the news spread that he had visited the Breach Candy Hospital to see his father. Mehmood thought that since he was also admitted in the same hospital, Amitabh Bachchan would surely visit him too but Amitabh Bachchan had left the hospital in a hurry after meeting his father without meeting Mehmood.
This upset Mehmood a lot and he said, though he was Amitabh Bachchan’s filmy Baap that is he is the father to him in the film industry who gave him his first successful break, but Amitabh Bachchan had no value for him and saying these words, he had tears in his eyes.
