The film is about Bharat essayed by ManojKumar who attempts to provide is family under a lot of financial struggle. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay, is the brother of Bharat and stars Zeenat Aman as Sheetal, Moushumi Chatterjee as Tulsi who is the love interest of Bharat and is hand in hands with him in his poverty. Shashi Kapoor as Mohan Babu a wealthy businessman. This film was considered as one of the best and highly influential films in its era in Bollywood and was remade in Telugu.


Film Story

The film is a story of the struggle of a common man in India, struggling for job, providing for the family simple basic necessity which is also a challenge with a sister of marriageable age. How due to the rise in demand for money for day to day,  frustrated youth resort to crime when left with no other alternative. Even losing their lady love to a rich man. Leaves Bharat heart broken when he is trying to make ends meet, his brother joins the army.  This film also talks of the harsh reality of jobless young educated men. As Bharath burns his diplomas in his father’s funeral pyre.  He saves his lady love from being raped, and finding salvation for the poor, the film is a harsh reality of corrupt businessmen and illegal activities in the country and the poverty line in India in 1974.


Manoj Kumar known for his films revolving around the Country, a patriotic by heart brings out his best. A film on sacrifices and commitment, and struggle. The film did well at the box office. Songs were popular too from this film.
