Besides making entertaining films Yash Raj Films has played a pivotal in discovering hidden talent and giving them breaks in their films. The two topmost stars of Bollywood – Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh are the discoveries of Yash Chopra. Interestingly Anushka Sharma was rejected by many filmmakers but Aditya Chopra signed her for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan. When the film was released top film critic Khalid Mohamed and Nikhat Kazmi both wrote her off citing she lacks glamour and sex appeal to draw attention. But to everybody’s surprise, the film was a huge hit and Anushka Sharma tight-lipped everybody!!
Like Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh too was discarded by film director Maneesh Sharma who directed Band Baaja Baaraat but it was the eagle eyes of Aditya Chopra who had the vision that Ranveer Singh would go miles as an actor. However, there was a tussle between Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma. After watching the first audition itself Aditya was sure that Ranveer was the right choice for the role but Maneesh felt he looked too urbane and sophisticated to suit the Bittoo Sharma, the street-smart local Delhi boy! Hence Ranveer Singh had to give numerous auditions to satisfy film director Maneesh Sharma.
In fact, after a flop debut in Saawariya, Ranbir Kapoor was in a fix but Aditya Chopra was sure of his talent hence when other filmmakers took a backseat to sign Ranbir Kapoor, Aditya signed him in his film Bachna Ae Haseeno as the lover boy and it hit the bull’s eye!!
Ayushmann Khurrana, the regaining star of Bollywood with a series of hit films like Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), Badhaai Ho (2018), Andhadhun (2018), Dream Girl (2019), and this year’s biggest hit Bala (2019) too had a disastrous debut but Ayushmann Khurrana hit stardom with Yash Raj Film‘s Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
The simple looking yet talented Bhumi Pednekar is perhaps the Shabana Azmi of contemporary Bollywood. The year 2019 has been the most fruitful year to this brilliant actress who has hit a hat trick with the success of Saand Ki Aankh, Bala and Pati Patni Aur Woh. Interestingly, Bhumi Pednekar is also the discovery of YRF. She made her debut with YRF‘s romantic comedy Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) and went on to win the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
