Armaan starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Gracy Singh and Randhir Kapoor is a film screened at Cannes Film and released in 2003.
It marked the first film with Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor sharing the screen space together after 21 years.
The film starts with the story of Dr. Siddharth Sinha(Amitabh Bachchan) and his son Dr. Akash Sinha(Anil Kapoor) , who both work in the same hospital . Both want to run the hospital with the state of Art facility. Dr. Neha Mathur (Gracy Singh) joins the hospital and soon Dr. Akash and she fall in love. Sonia Kapoor(Preity Zinta) who arrives too soon changes things between Dr. Akash and Dr Neha due to Sonia’s jealousy and being a spoilt woman has her own ways to draw Dr. Akash towards her.
The twist is Sonia is a spoilt brat daughter of the rich Gulshan Kapoor(Randhir Kapoor) who will fund the hospital to make it the state of art hospital as dreamt by Dr. Siddharth Sinha. However the agreement is that he will help only if Dr. Akash agrees to marry his daughter Sonia, little realizing he in is love with Dr. Neha.
Dr. Siddharth Sinha dies in an accident trying to save a child and his last wish is the hospital to be completed . Akash is now burdened with not just the guilt but also the increasing debts that he is not able to cope up with . Over a broken heart he decides to break his relationship with his lady love Dr. Gracy and marry Sonia for the money that her father has promised to build his father’s dream hospital. She continues to suspect them even after marriage and her various attempts to get Neha kicked out of the hospital for no fault of hers.
Sonia is involved in an accident and her brain is damaged. Akash operates upon her to cure her completely and she realizes he could have let her die but he chose to give her a new life and she regrets her behavior and gives him a divorce asking him to marry Dr. Neha. The film ends with a happy note with the hospital built as per his father’s dreams.
