Being born in a lower caste in India means there is only a marginally higher chance of survival than of a helpless, defenseless animal. This case is especially true in the rural domains of the country where illiteracy and traditional rituals are still blindly followed. The cruelty of the Zamindars and their blindfolded indifference have created a hell for the marginalized dalits of the country.

This story tells us about a fourteen year old dalit boy named Santu, who wants to break the bondage of being labeled and cornered by the wealthy landlord, Dhaval, played by Sanjay Suri of his village. His only respite is watching his daughter Mona pass by from a distance where he watches perched on a tall tree. One day unfortunately, he gets caught by the villagers and is pushed into a well where he gets badly injured.

Santu dreams of going to the city to study just like his elder brother Bajrangi, played by Riddhi Sen. His brother however, tells him to confess his love to Mona and helps him write her a love letter.

Chauranga is directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra and produced by Onir, Sanjay Suri and Mohan Mulani. The music is composed by Vivek Phillip.
