Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Sunil(Shashi Kapoor) are small time thiefs who do not get along well with each other and are basically adjustings. Their bosses send them on a mission to abduct a rich man Seth Mathur (Shreeram Lagu)’s son Bitto and demand ransom from the wealthy Mathur.
During their journey to complete the task they both join a school and hide their identity .. Vijay becomes Ram, while Anju becomes one as Lakshman. Ram meets Anju( Parveen babi) and Lakshman meets Shalu(Hema Malini). Both the girls unware of the background the belong to fall in love with them .
They both get close to Bittoo to lure him and realise they are very fond of him and do not want to abduct him.. Meanwhile their lady love, Anju and Shalu get to know .
