Padmaavat the 2018 epic period film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is based on the epic poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.. Starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati . The Rajput queen is known for her beauty and is wife of Maharawat Ratan Singh played by Shahid Kapoor . Sultan Alauddin Khiljii is played by Ranveer Singh hears of her beauty and attacks her kingdom to claim Padmavati. Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad and Anupriya Goenka featuring the film have prominent roles as supporting characters.
Padmaavat released was delayed due to the violent protests on the numerous controversies revolving around the film. The Central Board of Film Certification had approved the film with the changes with the disclaimers and change in the title.. Padmaavat was rescheduled for its release on 25th January 2018.
The film received mixed reviews though it did break the Box office records with 2.15 billion (US $ 30 Million) and left the critics praising the cinematography and Ranveer Singh’s portrayal as Khiljii and the film went on to become one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time.
