Major Jaidev, played by Anil Kapoor shows his bravery and heroism when he captures a dreaded terrorist Abhrush, and rescues a politician. He is then declared a hero in the country and asked to take a leave for a week. Jaidev goes to his hometown and meets his childhood friend Anjali, played by Madhuri Dixit, who tries to win him over. At a subsequent party, Jaidev meets Miss India title winner Pooja, played by Namrata Shirodkar and falls in love with her. Her mother however doesn’t want her daughter to marry an Army man and keeps her away from him.

 

Anjali comes to know of Jaidev’s fascination with Pooja is jealous. When he and Pooja start to spend time together she is heart broken. Abhrush comes to know of this and takes advantage of Anjali’s fragile situation. They make Anjali steal important documents from Jaidev. This and several other circumstances lead Jaidev to be labeled a traitor. Anjali soon realizes her fault and decides to make things right. Jaidev then comes to know of Anjali’s love for him and marries her.

 

The movie is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Boney Kapoor, Surinder Kapoor and Bharat Shah. The star cast includes Om Puri, Shivaji Satam, Danny Denzongpa Denzongpa, Anjan Srivastava, Viju Khote, Girish Karnad, Mukesh Rishi, K D Chandran, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Govind Namdev, Sudhir Joshi. The music is composed by A.R Rahman.
