Safar(journey) is directed by Asit Sen , produced by Mushir-Riaz, starring rajesh Khanna -Sharmila Tagore- Feroz Khan- Ashok Kumar and was released on the 31st of July 1970.
It starts off in a flashback where Neela (Sharmila Tagore) meets Avinash(Rajesh Khanna) in a medical college and both get close to each other. He is a painter, poor but works in his free time, is suffering from Cancer and does not disclose about his illness. She works a tutor initially meets Shekhar (Feroz Khan) who admires her, wants to marry her. She has some misunderstanding with Avinash and decides to marry Shekhar . He doubts her and commits suicide and she is blamed for it and at the trial his mother testifies, the court acquits her. Avinash leaves the city and Neela is devastated. Dr. Chandra(Ashok Kumar) takes her under his wings and makes her a Doctor and she dedicates her life to the medical Profession.
