The story shows the birth of Bheeshma, Pandu, Dhitarashtra and Vidur and of Pandavas and Kauravas. Dronacharya is the gurur of Pandvas and Kauravas. He asks them to defeat Drupad as a form of his Gurudakshina. They willingly do so and give them half of the kingdom. Drupad then takes revenge by acquiring Dhrishthadhyumna as well as Draupadi. Meanwhile Shakuni mama and Duryodhan plot of kill Pandavas and kunti by burning them alive. They however survive and go into anonymity. Duryodhan is then made the crown prince of Hastinapur. Arjun wins Draupadi’s hand in marriage in her swayamvara. However she is shown getting married to all the pandavas. During a Rajsuya Yagna by king Yudhisthir, Draupadi insults Duryodhan. He does not take the insult lightly and takes revenge by trying to disrobe her. But she calls out to Lord Krishna who saves her. Duryodhan then sends the Pandavas and Draupadi for 12 and 1 more year of exile and to live in complete anonymity. This is the starting of the war of Mahabharat. The serial is directed by B.R Chopra and Ravi Chopra. The star cast includes Nitish Bharadwaj, Mukesh Khanna, Praveen Kumar, Roopa Ganguly, Puneet Issar, Pankaj Dheer, Gufi Paintal and Arjun.
