Diana Penty was Imtiaz Ali’s first choice for playing Heer Kaul in Ranbir Kapoor’s Rock star which she had to turn down owing to other modeling commitments she had in hand. But Ali turned out to her rescue in the year 2012 when he recommended her for Saif Ali Khan’s romcom Cocktail, where she went on to deliver an astonishingly matured performance as Meera; a typical Indian girl with traditional values who finds herself in a foreign land. The movie was well received and Penty received garlands and words of praise from critics and audience alike for the breathtaking debut in what they referred to as a hard character to crack early only in a debut performance. Penty received numerous Awards for the movie. Diana Penty had to appear for an audition for Cocktail which she successfully completed after the fourth time in Rome. After a splendid debut in Cocktail, Penty was in the limelight of B-town with a handful of film offers and characters which she turned down citing that her follow up movie should be in par with the bars raised by the debut, thus she could not commit any further movies and shifted her focus back to modeling. Diana Penty did not commit in any project for almost four years and she returned to Bollywood with the title role in Anand L Rai’s production Happy Bhag Jayegi, the romcom directed by Mudassar Aziz saw her pairing with Abhay Deol and Jimmy Shergill, which released in August, 2016 which is incidentally her second release only. The film is a story of Amritsari bride Happy played by Diana Penty who runs away from her marriage ceremony, a hilarious film and Penty once again has got all the potential to showcase her aura once again after Cocktail though the role by itself is under-written.
