Biography

A long stint in Television before cinema Malaika Arora while working for MTV as an anchor had the chance to host their prime time shows like ‘Love Line’ and ‘Style Check’ both of which made her a regular face of the Indian Television in India and in the entertainment industry and during that period she also hosted television awards and shows which ultimately led to her entry into Bollywood. Malaika Arora also featured in some famous advertisements of Indian brands. Malaika’s first album song was Bally Sagoo’s ‘ Gur Naalo Ishq Mitha’ which finally lead to her very first item number in Bollywood where she appeared in the chartbuster hit song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya‘ opposite Shahrukh Khan from the Mani Ratnam movie Dil Se in 1998. The song became an instant trendsetter and Malaika had been approached to make a small appearance in the romantic thriller Bichhoo in 2000. Malaika continued her cameos in movies like Kaante and also in the patriotic film MaaTujhhe Salaam; incidentally where her husband too played a crucial supporting role. After two more item numbers in movies like Kaal and Heyy Babyy and an extended cameo in the movie Om Shanti Om and also a song Welcome in 2007, Malaika had become a regular face in the typical Bollywood Masala Entertainers. First supporting role in EMI (2008) Malaika was cast in a supporting role in Sanjay Dutt’s comedy EMI in the year 2008 but the movie bombed critically, although it had an average business and her character went unnoticed meanwhile she continued to be judge in the reality dance shows Nach Baliye , season’s 1 &2 and Zara Nachke Dikha also hosting the programme Dhoom Macha De in 2008 . She continued her stint in television with other dance shows too like The Perfect Maid and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 in 2010. Malaika stepped in to feature film production in the year 2010, where she funded for the Salman Khan starrer action comedy Dabangg; which she coproduced with her husband under their production house Arbaaz Khan productions . In this film she appeared in the super hit song ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’. Dabangg went on to create collection records and also won many awards like National Film Awards for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and also other accolades. Malaika also bankrolled the second instalment of Dabangg which too turned out to be a huge hit. After cameo appearances in House full series in the first two parts she was seen acting in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year in 2014. Malaika’s latest production was the comedy Dolly Ki Doli which garnered highly encouraging reviews but turned out to be an average grosser.

Malaika Arora has over the years been a constant presence in Bollywood. She is often cited by the masses as the ‘Queen of Bollywood Item numbers’. Malaika has made her mark in Bollywood as a model, although her body of work as an actress is minimal. She is considered to be one of the finest models in India who has attained it all in the glamour business over the years. Malaika has established herself as a leading figure in the fashion industry. Malaika also has a popular following among the ordinary movie goers for her special cameos in blockbuster Songs from highly popular movies. She is also a professional dancer who has been into dancing from an early stage which paved her way to being one of the most sought after judges in India’s most watched television dance shows.
