Rimi Sen is one of the most famous actresses of the past decade in Bollywood. She has her name attached to the list of some of Bollywood cinema’s biggest grossers and historical hits like Dhoom , Golmaal, Garam Masala and in the past made her mark in critically acclaimed flicks like Johnny Gaddar, Sankat City and many more.

Rimi Sen was born and brought up in Kolkatta , where she did her schooling from Bidya Bharat Girl’s High School and then went on to graduate in commerce from University of Calcutta. She aspired to be an actress from early on and went on to make her film debut after appearing in an Ad for the popular brand Coca-Cola with Aamir Khan early on.

Rimi Sen always dreamed about being actress from her early age but her parents were sceptical of a film career but her sole consolation was he supporting grandfather who encouraged her aspiration. Rimi Sen is also a professionally Odissha Dancer

Film debut and rise to prominence Rimi Sen made her film debut in Telugu industry 2002 opposite Arjan Bajwa in the romcom Nee Thodu Kavali which despite a cold response led to her Hindi debut in Priyadarshan’s comedy Hungama where she paired with Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal and Aftab Shivdasani in the lead. The movie catapulted her to instant fame as it enjoyed a tremendous commercial run at the box office and got recognized by movie goers too. She was seen coming up with a commendable performance in the comedy of errors. She then went on to be a part of the critically acclaimed Hindi flick Baghban and the Bengali production Sajani. Major career break ( 2004-2006) Rimi Sen got noticed in the big league with her appearing as the immature, side-lined wife of Abhishek Bachchan in the blockbuster Dhoom, which inspired sequels due to its popularity and success in the future. She had essentially nothing to do in the action thriller than just about be herself with her stunning looks and as in usual Bollywood action extravaganzas served the purpose of being over showed by the antics of the male counterparts but the ground-breaking success of the movie led to her being considered for Mainstream outings in the future. She went back to her home turf with the National Award winning Bengali Feature film Swapner in 2004 after which she went on to the Telugu production Andarivaadu opposite Chiranjeevi which was a commercial potboiler. She bounced back in Bollywood with Priyadarshan’s epic comedy flick Garam Masala where she co-starred with Akshay Kumar and John Abraham as the official to be wife of Akshay Kumar after a series of comic situations involving a man dating three ladies at the same time. Kyon Ki , Phir Hera Pheri were her next releases in supporting roles and also went on to play the female lead in Vikram Bhatt’s ensemble romcom featuring Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Shahid Kapoor in the lead and maintained her stead run. Recent films (2006-2016) Rimi Sen’s next major commercial hit was Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal - Fun Unlimited, which had Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi and Tusshar Kapoor in the lead. She was seen in a saucy girl next door character who was the object of desire for the four hero’s amidst absurdly funny and engrossing confusion of the narrative and the movie was a huge blockbuster and since been considered a cult comedy my many and also had a good word of mouth from the critics. After which she reprised her character in the sequel Dhoom 2 in a cameo. She then went on to play the lead in the sports drama Hattrick, along with Paresh Rawal, Kunal Kapoor and Nana Patekar in the lead. Rimi Sen was seen as the spouse of a man obsessed with the game of cricket played by Kunal Kapoor and was a revelation for her and awaited departure from past over the top flicks which got her some recognition among the filmgoers. Sriram Raghavan’s neo noir thriller Johnny Gaddar was her next main release which saw her pairing with Neil Nitin Mukesh with a reputed star cast including Dharmendra, Zakir Hussain and Vinay Pathak. The movie which dealt with themes of angst, mutual plotting and narrates the backstabbing enveloping a huge money deal arising between five partners in crime gets embroiled in a series of crimes, had Sen playing the cheating wife of one of one of the friends who shares feelings for the youngest one of the group played by Neil Nitin Mukesh. The movie was a critical phenomenon upon release and Rimi Sen was seen emotting the psychological nuances of the girl trapped in multiple relations. After the dud release in De Taali in 2008, she surfaced strongly by appearing among the lead in the 2009 dark comedy Sankat City which opened to tremendous critical reviews and saw her sharing screen with Kay Kay Menon and Anupam Kher and is one of the most priceless films up her filmography till date. Horn ‘OK’ Pleassss was her next production in the same year which had her donning a double role along side Nana Patekar and Muzammil Ibrahim. She yet again played the common link tempting the plot points in the romantic comedy of errors which was not received as expected among the masses and reviewers alike. The ensemble comedy Thank You saw her on screen with Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, and Bobby Deol. The movie was a huge let-down and was a major underperformer with demoralizing reviews and box office records. Tigmanshu Dhulia was next in line to cast her in his crime thriller Shagird, alongside Nana Patekar and Mohit Ahlawat. The socially relevant thriller garnered extra ordinary reviews and subsequently gifting her onemeaty character after a short while in the process. Rimi Sen was last seen in a feature film production was the biographical sports movie Budhia Singh: Born To Run, which is based on the life of real life Budhia Singh who is world’s most youngest marathon runners. The movie was a National Award winning venture and saw her on screen with Manoj Bajpayee and Mayur Patole which released in the year 2016 to generally encouraging reviews.
