After his success in the entertainment world, Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in politics but his experience there wasn't pleasant and he faced disappointment. He later made his come back in movies with Main Azad Hoon which was released on 15 December 1989.

Main Azad Hoon, was inspired by the American movie 'Meet John Doe'. The film was written by Javed Akhtar. Director Tinnu Anand was very excited about this movie. As per the media reports, its title was changed several times. First 'Sach' then, 'Mahatma', then 'Satyam' and then the 'Main Azad Hoon' was finalized by the makers.

The climax of the movie was also changed according to the suggestion of Amitabh Bachchan's close friend Manmohan Desai. Amitabh had a lot of trust in Manmohan Desai; he invited him to watch the movie before it was released. After watching the movie Manmohan Desai advised director Tinnu Anand that the climax should be changed and the suggestion was accepted.
Brilliant suggestion by Amitabh Bachchan to Main Azad Hoon movie's producers:
Main Azad Hoon was shot in Rajkot, Gujarat. About 50,000 people were needed to shoot one scene from the movie. To gather so many people in one place was a very difficult task for the movie's crew. Amitabh came up with an idea to find a solution for this. Amitabh suggested to the film producer to organize a program featuring him; such an initiative will definitely gather People to watch superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Producers of the movie placed an advertisement claiming about such a program after Amitabh's advice. The advertisement featured the address of the place and timing. The idea became successful and a crowd of around 50,000 came to see Amitabh.
Main Azad Hoon the box office failure:
Unfortunately, the movie did badly at the box office. Main Azad Hoon became one of the lowest-grossing movies by Amitabh Bachchan in the 90's. The movie only has one song in it 'itne baju itne sir' which was written by Shabana Azmi's father and famous poet Kaifi Azmi. And Amitabh Bachchan sung it. Javed Akhtar won a Filmfare award of Best dialogues for Main Azad Hoon.
The music director of the film are Amar-Utpal.
