Did You Know The Film ‘Coolie’ Had A Song Which Was Later Removed From The Film? It Has An Interesting Story Behind It.

Listen to this link and then read the story. The story goes as that this song if you listen to it is the title song of ‘Coolie’ and the song is slight different isn’t it? Yes, it is! This song may sound familiar to you but this particular track is a sad version of the cheerful title song that we all had loved.   The film maker Manmohan Desai wanted to use this particular version for the climax scene at the end of the film, but it so happened after the song was recorded the song was not used in the climax scene.

We will now see why it was so, why the song didn’t fit in when it’s a beautiful song and only a melancholy version of the title song, but the film making is a creative art and film directors always will shoot the film as per his wish and desire. Another reasoning is the way the song is recorded, it is not necessary the scene shot is for that particular song hence at the editing table decisions are taken on the sequence of the song and the scenes are edited accordingly and many a times the particular song track though is a super hit and audience have liked it as film directors and producers launch songs of the film initially and at a later date they decide the song doesn’t fit in and its removed from the film.  This incident happened with this particular sad version of the Coolie title song.

As per the film’s storyline and the script, in the last scene Amitabh Bachchan dies and for this particular scene and sequence the sad version of the song was to be incorporated and would have gone very well with the scene which was emotional, however during of the shooting of the Coolie fight scene, we all know that Amitabh Bachchan had severe injuries and he was away from the shooting for over 6 six months recovering from the injury that was nearly fatal. His life was at a crossroad where we were not sure if he would survive after this accident and he was battling between life and death for several months and his fans worldwide not just in India but across the whole world were praying for his recovery.  At last after 6 months of ordeal, the prayers by his fans was answered and the superstar recovered and got literally a new life. He rejoined the unit to complete the pending scenes as the shooting for the film had stalled for over six months after this terrible accident on the sets.

Since Amitabh Bachchan had recovered from a dreadful time wherein he almost died, the distributors demanded that the scene should be changed, and director of the film felt the dying scene of Amitabh Bachchan which was the original script had to be changed as they felt his fans worldwide would not have accepted his death in the film soon after his recovery and would not have tolerated him dying in the film so the last scenes were changed to end on a positive note and therefore the melancholy sad version of the song was also not required and hence removed though it was recorded.  The Director had to shoot an additional scene with Amitabh Bachchan at the end in which he says, I had left but I am back because of your prayers.

In reality the prayers of his fans had worked miracle and Amitabh Bachchan recovered completely from a most tragic injury that he survived and is now continuing to reign the film industry and the film ‘Coolie’ was a super hit and grossed great heights at the Box Office.
