Directors Who Turned Into Actors

It’s a case of the admirer turning into the muse himself. Bollywood directors have guided actors and superstars get into the skin of the character. Their own talent of course has to be so good that they can replicate a scene for the stars to understand. Since they already know almost all facts of movie making, acting should not really be rocket science to them! Thus there are times that many filmmakers are offered roles in movies sighting their perfect looks for a particular character. Lets take a moment to read which directors made it as successful actors.

 

Farah Khan

 

Farah Khan debuted as a director with Main Hoon Na starring Shah Rukh Khan, which did pretty well at the box office. Her fans would never have thought that she would be in front of the screen so soon. Her film Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi opposite Boman Irani was quite a successful one and had the audiences in splits!

 

Karan Johar

 

Although Karan Johar first made a small blink and miss appearance in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge starring Kajol, he was pretty much behind the camera after that. However when he got a role offered in a big budget period drama Bombay Velvet, he grabbed it, but the film for a huge flop. His performance however was praised nonetheless.

 

Prakash Jha

 

The intense drama ‘Gangaajal’ had filmmaker Prakash Jha slip effortlessly into a cop’s role for his own movie. His performance was so flawless that it was hard to tell he was a director all this while.

 

Farhan Akhtar

 

After his incredible cult movie Dil Chahta Hai, no one really knew Farhan Akhtar could sing and act. Once the audience saw what he could do in front of the camera with Rock On!, they were blown away and Farhan never looked back. His other movies included Luck By chanceBhaag Milkha BhaagDil Dhadakne Do among others.

 

Anurag Kashyap

 

The clever director Anurag Kashyap has had some amazing lineup of movies over the years that he has directed, like MasaanShaitanDev DGangs of Wasseypur and many more. He however transitioned effortlessly in front of the camera first in the Nana Patekar starrer Shagird and later in a significant role in Akira. His acting capabilities were applauded as much as his movie making skills.
