Friends the film writers Salim Javed wrote for super hit films like Sholay, Deewar, Don, Trishul, Shakti etc and these films became popular and famous due to a very good story .Thus the writers were given importance for their position in the industry.

Before Salim Javed became famous with their films, nobody gave much importance to the writers. Later people started appreciating the storyline, the script and felt the script is the main structure for a film development.  Everything follows later in film making. It’s like building foundation and if that is strong the building will stand erect so is the writer’s story that stands tall before the film is conceived or thought. If the script is not good the film can be beaten badly at the box office.

It is a known fact that when the script is very good the films have done very well and have been successful whether there is a superstar or not, a simple story like Rajshri film’s Dosti or Chitchor or even Jai Santoshi Maa or the film Chhoti Si Baat.  These films were not big budget films but became famous as the story appealed to the public.

If you ask a film maker what can make a film famous and successful, he will give the priority to the songs, the actors, the locations but seldom will give the credit to the script by the writers while South Films if you have noticed may not have super stars they might have the b grade actors too if they wish but their story or the script for the film is very strong that brings the success to the films.

In the 70’s Salim Javed the film writers started a new trend. They wrote the best script, best screenplay, best story and they also charged more. You will be surprised to know in the 70’s, the duo writers gave 17 super hit films and many a times after the success of the film, they even charged the hero of the film.

In one of the interviews Salim Khan said that when he worked along with the famous script writer, Wajah Mirza as his assistant he noticed that for writing for very famous films such as Mugale Azam, he was paid peanuts. Thats why he had then decided that if he writes for films and becomes a famous script writer, he would charge well and not be taken granted for his writing.  After all the film’s foundation depends on the right script. So when he wrote for the super hit films like Deewar, or Sholay or Hera Pheri, Majboor, Kranti or Mr. India, the films that went on to become super hit he did not hesitate to ask for his worth.

Salim Javed wrote for the film Dostana, wherein for the very first time Shatrughan Sinha and Amitabh Bachchan came into competition for this role. For this film Amitabh Bachchan charged Rs. 70 Lakhs whereas the writer Salim Khan demanded Rs. 75 Lakhs and in Bollywood this was the first time the script writer had charged higher than the leading actor and thus gave the script writers a new stand in the film industry.
