Do You Know Why Asha Bhosle Did Not Accept The Film Fare Award And O.P. Nayyar Had Accepted It, And What Did He Do With That Award?

Film fare Award is one of the most prestigious awards
of the Hindi film industry and is in par with the Hollywood’s Oscar Awards.
Though the Film Fare Awards is one of the most sought after, famous and
prominent, many actors have refused the award for various reasons. There is one
such interesting anecdote why the award was refused ?
O.P. Nayyar was responsible solely for the success of
Asha Bhosle as the playback singer in the film industry. He was the also the only music director in the
film industry who never gave Lata Mangeshkar any songs to sing. He only gave
preference to Asha Bhosle and thus he gave her a chance to sing for his every
film and she rose to become a well-known singer, almost in par with Lata
Mangeshkar.
Asha Bhosle and O.P Nayyar worked together for almost
15 years and during these 15 years, they also developed a relationship with
each other, which the film journalists
blew out of proportion by writing lot of fake news about the two to fill their
gossip columns.
In the early 70’s, Asha Bhosle also got very close to R.D. Burman
and they both fell in love. That is when she ignored or rather dumped O.P
Nayyar and married R.D. Burman after a couple of years.
O.P Nayyar was very hurt but he kept quiet about the whole thing and midst of this separation, the song, ‘humko kabhi aapne jeene na diya’ from the film, ‘Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye’ became a super hit song. The song was sung by Asha Bhosle. This song till date is very popular and is in the list of Asha Bhosle’s top ten songs that she has sung.
You would be surprised to know that Asha never liked
this particular song and she made the film producer remove this song from the
film. Though the song had already been released and was a hit. If you watch the film you will not see this
song in the film but you can hear this song only in the radio as it was
recorded and had gained popularity they continued broadcasting it only on the
radio.
This song was not only a super hit but Asha Bhosle that year got an award for the Best Female Singer. But an angry Asha who hated the song refused her award. She did not come up to receive the award. O P Nayyar who was also present for the award function by Film Fare, went up to the stage and received the trophy on behalf of Asha Bhosle. He was extremely upset and angry on Asha Bhosle. He did not hand over the trophy to her which was meant for her instead he drove away and threw the trophy out of his car window on to the road.
