When he became a popular craze on social media, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar met him and was highly inspired by his struggle and success.

Informing about making the film, Zoya Akhtar said, “I had a rough idea about the plot of the subject I wanted to make a film. At that time, I had not met Naved Sheikh and knew nothing about him but after meeting Naved Sheikh and after listening to his soulful story, I decided to design my protagonist Murad on his life.” She added, “On further research, I found several such guys like Naved Sheikh on the streets and slums in Mumbai. They are talented, they have a superb voice and they are deeply passionate. They are amazing writers, and they are all between 20 years -25-year-old. Hence I decided to make the movie and give an impetus to rap and hip-hop culture.”
