Interestingly, this song was done after the film was completed. So, the song was never meant for Don. It was written for Dev Anand’s film Banarasi Babu. The song was shot after Don’s shooting was complete and it was added to the film post interval to balance the action portion it had. Actor Manoj Kumar, after seeing the picture’s first screen, said that the sequences in Don are so gripping that even taking a toilet break was difficult. Thus, the song was added to the film.
There is one more fact about the making of Khaike Paan Banaraswala. Kishore Kumar was known widely for his funny behaviors at recording. During the recording of this song, Kishore Kumar actually chewed a paan and spat it on a plastic sheet to make it sound natural.
