Akashaditya Lama

96-97 before shifting to creative arts in Mumbai. Lama began theatrical training through a forty-day training workshop led by an NSD director in Gwalior and participated in theatre groups such as ‘Kala Mandir’ and ‘Kala Group’ for two years before moving to Mumbai at around 18 years of age.

In Mumbai, Lama worked extensively as an assistant director in advertising and feature films, including high-profile projects such as Gadar: Ek Prem Katha(2001), and wrote television serials both in India and Indonesia. Also, he was the second-nit director at Balaji Telefilms and contributed scripts to long-running shows such as Kkusum, Kumkum, Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Radha Ek Shyam, and Jhilmil Sitaaron Ka Angan Hoga. 

In 2012, he directed his first feature film, ‘Cigarette Ki Tarah’, which was a romantic-thriller starring Prashant Narayanan and Yuvika Chaudhary. Then, he created Nani Teri Morni, which was the first official Nagamese language feature film, both written and directed by himself. Moreover, this film was widely screened at IFFI in Goa in 2018. 

In early 2024, he followed up with a commercial theatrical release—Tauba Tera Jalwa, a romantic comedy starring Ameesha Patel and Angela Krislinzki, showing good critical and audience response On 29 March 2024, Lama’s historical romantic drama Bengal 1947: An Untold Love Story premiered, garnering acclaim for its sensitive handling of the partition of Bengal and strong character depth; praised during screenings such as at Auroville, it underlines his transition from theatre-rooted storytelling to larger-scale cinema 

Lastly, he has served on several important government and cultural panels, including the Central Board of Film Certification, ICCR, Ministry of Culture committees, National Film Awards 2018, IFFI Goa selection committees (2019 & 2021), CCRT (2022 & 2023), and Bharat Rang Mahotsav (2023 & 2024).
