Tara began her career as a singer in Disney India’s reality show Big Bada Boom in 2010 and gradually transitioned into acting with the channel’s sitcoms The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir in 2012 and in Oye Jassie in 2013. Tara had made her film debut in the year 2019 with Student of the Year 2, for which she won the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. Thereafter, Tara played the leading lady in the androcentric action film Marjaayaan in 2019. She also acted in films like Heropanti 2 and Ek Villain Returns, both of which were released in 2022. Between 2010 and 2013, Tara Sutaria was active in her television career. Besides being associated with Disney Channel India as a Video Jockey, she had two successful sitcoms to her credit. Tara had recorded music in India and abroad for films, advertisements and her own original work. Her song ‘Slipping through my Fingers’ was a part of Bharat Dhabholkar’s ‘Blame it on Yashraj’ and Ashwin Gidwani’s production. She played the lead role of Sandy in Raell Padamsee’s production of the musical Grease.
Tara recorded and performed solo concerts in London, Tokyo, Lavasa and Mumbai. She performed with Louis Banks and Mikey McCleary. Tara Sutaria had been recognised for her roles of Vinnie in The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir and as Jassie in Oye Jassie. She was one of the two actresses who were selected for the role of Princess Jasmine in the American Fantasy movie, Aladdin, in 2019, but the role went to Naomi Scott instead.
In 2021, Tara acted with debutante Ahan Shetty in Milan Lutharia's directorial romantic thriller film Tadap, which was a remake of the Telugu Film RX 100 released in 2018. The film received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office.
However, Tara made her debut later in the same year with Punit Malhotra’s coming of age film Student of the Year 2 in 2019, along with Tiger Shroff and Ananya Panday, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt. The film was produced by Karan Johar. It was the sequel of the hit film Student of the Year, released in 2012. She was nominated for the Best Female Debut at the Filmfare Awards, but the film had not done well commercially.
Tara was once again alongside Tiger Shroff in Heropanti 2 in 2022, which had received negative reviews. She starred alongside Kriti Sanon, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Amrita Singh. She then acted in the same year in the action thriller film “Ek Villain Returns”, starring Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham and Disha Patani. Tara has played the role of Zoya, a mute music teacher alongside Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Varun Dhawan. She was also in the film Marjaavaan in 2019. Tara Sutaria showcased her acting skills in the crime thriller film Apurva in 2023. The film was released on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar. After a short break from films for three years, Tara will appear in the film called ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ to be released worldwide on 19th March 2026. The film will be released in English, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and few other international languages besides Hindi.
Besides films and acting on television and modelling, Sutaria supports a number of social causes, such as animal welfare and feminism. She did a ramp walk for Lakme Fashion Week and has been the cover model for various magazines. In 2019, Tara was selected as the eight most influential personalities on Google in India.
She has endorsed several brands that include Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Hazoorilal Legacy Jewellers, and Nature 4 Nature. The celebrity featured in the ad film is along with actor Ishaan Khattar.
Last but not least, Tara is placed in the Times 50 Most Desirable Women list, 2019 at 13th rank and in 2020 she was ranked at 12th position.
