"800" is a biographical sports drama film made in the year 2023 in the Tamil language, which has been directed and written by M. S. Sripathy. With Madhur Mittal in the leading role, it explores the remarkable life of "Muttiah Muralitharan", the iconic cricketer from Sri Lanka who amassed a record number of Test wickets as a bowler.The overall picture portrays Muralitharan's development from a boy facing discrimination, to becoming a successful international athlete.

"Murali" is born and brought up, as part of a Tamil family, in Sri Lanka, during a time of civil unrest and ethnic violence. He rises above these obstacles, finding a love for cricket, and trains hard to develop skill. His unconventional bowling action becomes a topic of debate and he is charged with "chucking," receiving media scrutiny both domestically and overseas. Throughout this journey, Murali remains resilient, proving the legitimacy of his bowling and making every effort to find a place in the Sri Lankan international cricket team.

As Murali climbs the ranks in the team, his allegiance as a Tamil is assured, and the text illustrates how he winds the line between national pride and personal ambition. In the midst of this, when he is no-balled in a match, Murali faces doubt in himself, and in regards to his resiliency. With his team's support and coaches' guidance, he labors with even greater zeal, silencing critics and breaking an unprecedented 800 wicket record.

While "800" is an uplifting story of determination, it at times lacks pacing and emotional resonance. Madhur Mittal gives a fine performance in bringing out the spirit and determination of Murali. The film does justice to the ideologies of racism, patriotism, and sportsmanship, and hence proves to be an interesting watch for cricket fans and biopic watchers alike.
