"Aalan" is a 2024 Tamil romantic drama, directed by R. Siva and produced under 3S Pictures. Starring Vetri, Mathura, Aruvi Madhankumar, and Anu Sithara, the film has a heart-moving story of love, loss, and redemption.
Set in Poombarai, Kodaikanal, in 1986, the movie is about "Thyagu", a young boy raised in a loving joint family. His grandfather wishes him to study literature, but tragedy strikes when his greedy paternal uncles plan a fatal accident on a family trip to Rameswaram, which kills most of the family. Thyagu's maternal uncle rescues him and takes him to Chennai, unaware that his cousin Thamarai is in a coma.
With years passed by, Thyagu, lost and agitated, finds himself in Varanasi in 1999, and is welcomed by a benevolent sage, Guruji Desikar Adigalar. Being among peace does not bring peace within him, and Thyagu is unable to do so. Guruji is able to inspire him at last to be a writer, and he is taken to Chennai in 2010.
In Chennai, Thyagu meets Janani Thomas, a German-born Tamil literature enthusiast. Their instant rapport is déjà vu, although they don't recall where they met each other for the first time. When their bond becomes stronger, Janani knows Thyagu is the boy she had seen before at Rameswaram temple. They get married and fall in love. But happiness is short-lived; Janani is brutally attacked and killed, leaving Thyagu broken and lost once again.
Years later, Thyagu, now a renowned author in Rishikesh, writes bestsellers by the pen name Janani Thomas. His latest novel, "Aalan," is highly acclaimed. In Chennai, meanwhile, he bumps into Thamarai, who now works as a librarian, and she inadvertently helps him find his own book. A twist of fate reveals their lost sibling bond, closing their past.
At a book appreciation ceremony, Thamarai surprises everybody by declaring Thyagu as the actual author. Learning that their greedy relatives have become poor, Thyagu makes up his mind to forgive and not take vengeance, realizing land cannot be possessed. At last, Thyagu and Thamarai visit the Rameswaram temple, where Thyagu recalls Janani with affection before starting a new life.
