Synopsis

“Aima" (2023) is a Tamil thriller movie directed and written by Rahul R Krishna and produced by Shanmugam Ramasamy under the banner of Tamil Exotic Films. The movie stars Yunus Mohammed, Shanmugam Ramasamy, Akhil Prabakaran, Elvin Mathew, and Sisira Sebastian in key roles. The narrative starts with two unknown individuals, "Yunus and Elvin", both struggling with their own demons. Yunus is a gentle youth who is driven to the point of desperation and attempts to take his life in order to prevent his sick mother from being burdened financially. Elvin is tormented by the death of her brother and feels she can no longer live with the anguish. When both reach the point of giving up, they are unexpectedly abducted by some unknown individuals. They awaken in a dilapidated, padlocked bungalow with no recollection of who brought them there or why. Panic begins to set in as they try to find out, but what they learn astonishes them further: they have both been poisoned, and have only a short amount of time left to get away. They are given two opportunities to save their lives. As time passes, the two are compelled to depend on one another, solving puzzles, cryptic signs, and spine-tingling obstacles. Each room in the bungalow has secrets, and with every clue, they move a step closer to the truth. In the latter stages, the identity of the masked person involved in the abduction is shown to be "Shanmugam Ramasamy", a man with a personal agenda. But what is his motive? Is it revenge, redemption, or something sinister? "Aima" is a taut survival thriller that marries emotional backstories with suspenseful narratives. Tight pacing and a claustrophobic setting come together to generate an atmosphere of tension. Yunus and Elvin provide rooted performances, and the layered narrative of the film keeps viewers guessing until the final moment.
