Synopsis

"Angaaragan" (2023) is a Tamil action-horror movie directed by Mohan Dachu and produced by Jomon Philip. Starring Sathyaraj, Niya Sankranthil, and Angadi Theru Mahesh in the lead, the film combines paranormal thriller, psychological suspense, and non-linear narrative. The movie takes place against the haunting setting of a forest lodge and delves into secrets related to a former powerful queen who once owned the mansion. The film opens in a deserted resort located deep in a forest. The owner has vanished mysteriously, the wife is ill in bed, and the daughter is struggling to maintain the resort. Twelve hours pass by and a number of guests arrive, each with his or her own baggage. Among them are "Rohit" (Sreepathy), a novelist, and his wife "Diya" (Niya Sankranthil), who are attempting to salvage their collapsing marriage. Another guest, Akash, hits on two women who are guests at the resort, not realizing the dangers that lie in wait. With the arrival of night, bizarre paranormal events begin to unfold. Visitors are subjected to inexplicable visions, whispering voices, and creepy nightmares. Suspense builds when a guest vanishes under mysterious circumstances, plunging the whole resort into panic. The police arrive at the resort, led by officer "Pandian" (Sathyaraj), an experienced cop with a quick mind. As Pandian investigates, he uncovers the haunted past of the mansion, associated with a dead queen whose ghost continues to haunt the grounds. The mystery is revealed in non-linear fashion, and it is found that the estate holds more than ghostly visions: it holds painful memories, unresolved tragedy, and supernatural revenge. "Angaaragan" offers an atmospheric horror thriller experience, loaded with suspense and eerie visuals. While the story may be predictable at times, it is made unique by its unique structure and psychological depth. Sathyaraj adds gravity to the film, and the forest setting offers an immersive aspect. It's a decent pick for Tamil horror film and paranormal thriller enthusiasts.
