Bazooka

“Bazooka” (2025) is the surprising new hit Malayalam film that’s reinvigorating action thrillers scripted and directed by Deeno Dennis. It stars Mammootty along with Gautham Vasudev Menon as male lead. An Iranian painting is trickled into India, and Benjamin Joshua, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Kochi, moves it to safety after finding it during a routine border checkpoint. Months later, on an interstate bus to Bengaluru, an Indian gamer named Sunny encounters Aryan Achary, who is actually John, former police forensics specialist and childhood friend of original Benjamin. John reveals himself when Sunny discovers his true identity on his laptop.

In Kochi, a gang of robbers, who follow a video game-level structure for their heists, run amok. Benjamin and his team have a hard time stopping them, as the officers are ambushed and left with riddles they cannot figure out. John to help Benjamin in the investigation. The crew entices the gang to capture Benjamin’s son with a Mario game, which assists in piecing clues together after Sunny’s son plays and reports back. Together, Benjamin and John figure out the clues and find out the stolen painting is in a customs office.

When Sunny wants to hack a super complicated security lock John designed, and it looks impossible, he’s able to do it. When Sunny returns to find that John has been arrested, he makes a mad dash back to Kochi, only to realize that it’s a different John Caesar who is in jail. The more Sunny digs, the more he runs into Bazooka, the head of the gang, whose obsession and yearning for revenge against Benjamin becomes clear. Something of a black hat villain, Bazooka exploits Sunny’s hacking skills for his own nefarious goals and only ends up getting foiled, with everything he has stolen being returned to the police. Ultimately, Bazooka and Benjamin end up face-to-face on a flight to Dubai, setting up an inevitable confrontation.

Now “Bazooka” may be enjoying the limelight, mixing video game ingenuity with complex criminal offences, the action-adventure centres around a police detective and a successful entrepreneur as they engage in a high-speed cat-and-mouse pursuit to intercept a deadly man behind the activity. Weaving in clever turns, tech-savvy storytelling, and a complex narrative, the film has audiences riveted, culminating in a surprising, exciting set-up for more adventures to come.
