“Brother” is a 2024 Tamil-language comedy-drama film written and directed by M. Rajesh, produced by Sundar Arumugam. Starring Ravi Mohan and Priyanka Mohan, the film follows Karthik, an unruly law school dropout whose quick wit often gets him into trouble. His antics impose on his family, especially his older sister Anandhi, who brings him to her in-laws' uptight home in Ooty in hopes of rechanneling him.
“Karthik” finds it difficult to hold down a job, getting fired as much for being a champion of justice. “Anandhi” makes every effort, but his presence is tense in her in-laws' residence. He ultimately earns the District Collector, “Sivagurunathan IAS”, to trust him when he helps to quell a protest in a village. A hot-headed standoff, however, forces Karthik and Anandhi out of the home, further alienating him from his own parents.
In a dramatic turn of events, Karthik discovers that he is adopted and that his father makes acceptance contingent upon his being reunited with her in-laws. Unwavering, Karthik makes amends with Sivagurunathan's family, but they shame him. Encouraged by his determination, though, his love interest, Archana, offers him her support. Eventually, Anandhi’s husband reconciles with her, but Sivagurunathan remains stubborn.
Things take a turn when Sivagurunathan's political promotion dream goes awry, partly due to Karthik's actions. He is compelled to resign and embarrassed, and later kidnapped. Karthik rescues him, and this makes him turn over a new leaf. Sivagurunathan learns his mistakes, welcomes Karthik as his son-in-law, apologizes to Anandhi, and thanks Karthik's adoptive parents for raising him well.
With its blend of humor, family drama, and emotional depth, “Brother” is an enjoyable and touching film. Ravi Mohan performs well, oozing charm and sincerity as Karthik. The well-told narrative, clever humor, and touching scenes of family life of the film make it an enjoyable watch for the audiences who enjoy sentimental dramas.
