The film is based on the plight of bonded laborers in Bihar, who had to be at the complete mercy of their employers. The story takes us to the life of one laborer who was forced to steal for his master and had no choice but to get the job done. He was bound to his master till his death and thus was taken full advantage and exploited by him. The lower caste residing in the rural areas of Bihar suffered from extreme oppression and were discriminated against. The film also takes us through the migration of workers from poor states like Bihar to richer states like Punjab in the hopes of finding a lucrative employment. The film is directed and produced by Prakash Jha. The music is composed by Raghunath Seth. The cinematography is by Rajan Kothari. The star cast includes Manohar Singh, Annu Kapoor, Srila Mazumdar, Pyare Mohan Sahay, Deeti Naval and Shamlee.
