Dharala Prabhu

"Dharala Prabhu" (2020), written and directed by Krishna Marimuthu, is a Tamil romantic comedy that combines humor with a sensitive social cause. Dr. Kannadasan MBBS (Vivek) operates a fertility clinic in Chennai but struggles to find a healthy, reliable sperm donor for his patients. Through the Employment Exchange Department, he meets Prabhu Govind (Harish Kalyan), a cheerful, benevolent football player whose profile is ideal. Prabhu wishes to support his single mother and grandmother and soon falls in love with Nidhi Mandhana (Tanya Hope), who is employed at a mall.

At first disgusted by the prospect of sperm donation, Prabhu is convinced otherwise after seeing the emotional suffering of his football coach, who is unable to have children. Prabhu secretly begins donating sperm to Kannadasan's clinic, getting paid every time to support his family financially. But he is shocked to find out that Kannadasan intentionally obstructed his job opportunities to keep him as a donor. Prabhu feels cheated and distances himself from Kannadasan and asks Nidhi to marry him, deciding to begin a new life.

Later, after failing to conceive, Prabhu and Nidhi decide to adopt a small girl named Kavya, whose parents perished in an accident. Prabhu is shocked to come to know that Kavya is his biological daughter, conceived from one of his previous donations. Life seems to be settling down when financial issues get Prabhu arrested briefly, but Kannadasan saves him from it. Prabhu's past truth comes out, and there is tension with Nidhi. But realizing how many childless couples Prabhu has made happy, Nidhi forgives him. They reunite and rejoice with the afflicted families.

"Dharala Prabhu" succeeds due to its poignant narration, energetic performances, and nuanced treatment of a sensitive topic. Although formulaic in places, the film's lighthearted approach and emotional resonance redeem it as a fun and engaging watch.
