“Dominic And The Ladies Purse” (2025) is a Mollywood mystery comedy thriller directed and co-written by Gautham Vasudev Menon. Starring Mammootty, Gokul Suresh, and Sushmitha Bhat, the movie tracks Dominic, a disgraced ex-cop turned private investigator who accepts a straightforward case of finding the owner of a lost purse, only to stumble into a maze of kidnappings, killings, and a secretive dancer called Nandhita.
Dominic opens the purse to begin investigating and quickly learns it belongs to Pooja, a woman who went missing mysteriously after being discharged from a hospital. Upon going to the hospital, Pooja’s parents discover that she had no visitors and that she provided fake information. In each community, they discover hundreds of other young women who have disappeared under similarly dubious circumstances. As Dominic pursues further and further down the rabbit hole, he is met with resistance from hospital administrators, intimidation, and attempts to shut down his investigation. The stakes get higher when multiple murders are linked to the missing women, forcing Dominic to get to the bottom of things even if it kills him.
As Dominic investigates, he encounters Nandhita, a dancer who knows what has happened to Pooja. He quickly discovers she’s the undercover reporter unearthing a human trafficking operation hiding behind a fake reproductive health clinic. Pooja had attempted to flee after learning of the operation but had been re-arrested. Ever determined to save Pooja and others like her, Dominic recruits Nandhita and Vignesh as he storms the traffickers’ secret base of operations to liberate Pooja before it’s too late. Along the way, they save many more women, and they use their wits to out-criminalise the criminals running the operation.
“Dominic And The Ladies Purse” is a delightful mystery, comedy, and thriller all at once. Mammootty is phenomenal as the epic detective done wrong turned still kind of dumb but getting smarter more doggedly disciplined detective. The film closes with an inspirational focus on courageous and just actions taken outside the law.
