Deven is a hard working and dedicated Hindi professor. But his job is merely to give him a means of livelihood, as his real passion lies in poetry. He is fascinated by Urdu poetry and wants to pursue it. He thus wants to interview the legendary Urdu poet Nur. However the poet is so deeply involved in drinking alcohol that he has now lost his charm but never the less, Deven doesn’t give up hope. Even though Nur refuses to meet him, he still tries his best to talk to him. Sadly Deven spends so much time getting to know Nur that his own family feels neglected.
The film is directed by Ismail Merchant and produced by Wahid Chowhan. The music is composed by Zakir Hussain and Ustad Sultan Khan. The cinematography is by Larry Pizer. The star cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi,Sushma Seth,Neena Gupta and Om Puri.
