AVS Sethupathi is the director of the upcoming crime thriller in Tamil, Irulil Ravanan. Alongside Sreethu Krishnan, Thusanthin plays his first leading role in the movie. The film, which was produced by Wings of Fire Productions, is reportedly set in a gritty, forest-bound setting and combines mystery, crime, and mythic undertones. Ever since music director G.V. Prakash Kumar released the first sneak preview of Irulil Ravanan, it has garnered attention for its spectacular imagery and rural milieu. Production took place in Chennai and Ramanathapuram, the final shoot is expected to finish in early 2024.

The story is a rural drama about a town with secrets situated in the hinterland. When a string of crimes starts mirroring old stories, a tranquil village finds itself in a frenzy of fear and speculation. The intersection of old stories, and reality becomes anchored in a figure who is both folkloric and depthless. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes harder and harder to separate folklore, retribution and justice. Irulil Ravanan investigates the unexpected collisions between personal trauma and history.

According to reports, Thusanth portrays several facets of the same character, ranging from a vigilante reciting the Ravanan myth to a grounded man with a troubled past. Sreethu Krishnan stars as a schoolteacher who uncovers hidden truths and becomes an unlikely catalyst for change. Their performances are expected to carry the emotional weight of the story.

Though Irulil Ravanan was initially planned for a 2024 release, the film has not yet been released. Post-production delays, including visual effects and multilingual dubbing, have caused the postponement. With its mix of gripping mystery, emotional depth and a fresh take on Tamil folklore, the film offers something unique for audiences looking for thrillers with meaning and cultural roots.
