"Iru Mugan" is a 2016 Tamil action movie in the science fiction genre written and directed by Anand Shankar. Vikram features in a dual role alongside Nayanthara and Nithya Menen. The film tells the tale of a suspended RAW agent who is recalled to put an end to a deadly drug produced by an illicit scientist that grants temporary super strength.

The film opens with an aged man assaulting Indian officials at the Indian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. A tattoo on his neck suggests LOVE (Vikram's dual role), a criminal scientist from Akhilan's past. Akhilan (Vikram), an ex-RAW agent, had lost his wife, Meera (Nayanthara), in an old mission to apprehend LOVE. He is approached to return to the agency to investigate, accompanied by a junior officer, Arushi (Nithya Menen). They discover that the attacker had used a drug called Speed, which increases adrenaline for five minutes. The agents are taken to LOVE's base after they are captured along with a shipment of inhalers that were intended for LOVE. Meera is found alive by Akhilan, but she has no recollection of her past and goes by the name Rosy.

Meera later gets her memory back and turns against LOVE, and she assists Akhilan in escaping. LOVE murders Arushi and accuses Akhilan of murder. Committed to stopping the threat, Akhilan and Meera chase LOVE to disable a kill switch that has been implanted in Meera. After a final battle, Akhilan overcomes LOVE and uses his fingerprint to disable the weapons system. LOVE is destroyed, and the menace of the Speed drug is eliminated. Akhilan and Meera are finally reunited, free from the darkness of their past.

"Iru Mugan" is a blend of sci-fi, action, and drama, featuring superlative performances by Vikram, who plays both the hero and the villainous, effeminate showman. Stylish in look, the film features high-tension action and sleek visuals. Although the storyline follows a known path, thrilling moments, slick editing, and a score keep the spectator engaged throughout.
