"Jailer" is an action-comedy Tamil film 2023 released under the banners of Sun Pictures, written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, with Kalanithi Maran as the producer. It is starring Rajinikanth as the lead actor and with Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah, Vinayakan, and Jackie Shroff in the prominent roles. An action movie so glamorous that it is featured as one of the best films of 2023.
The film is about "Muthuvel Pandian", a retired prison guard who leads a simple life. Muthuvel's simple life is turned around when his son, in pursuit of a serious case of smuggling, disappears. He then starts out for a thrilling manhunt to find the killers of his son. Along with his adventure, he faces the powerful villains played by Vinayakan and Jackie Shroff, and black secrets that test his strength and resolve. Can the retired jailer rise against those who wronged his family?
Rajinikanth is an asset to the film as he enacts an age-behooving character with flair and panache. His acting holds the movie together even as the story flows through a sketchy script. The first half of “Jailer” is engaging, replete with thrilling action scenes and emotional moments. But the second half goes slack and does not gain enough steam in comparison to the first half. Nonetheless, the movie does provide some really strong scenes to keep the viewers hooked due to the magnetic presence of Rajinikanth on screen.
Released globally on August 10, 2023, “Jailer” has become a box office smash and one of the biggest Tamil movies in the past year by crossing all records. It is a movie based on action, humor, and emotional depth, which cements its position in the one of the best films ever made.
