Justice Gopinath is a crime action film by D. Yoganand. Features Sivaji Ganesan, K. R. Vijaya, Rajinikanth and Sumithra. The film follows Justice Gopinath, a strict and honest judge, who arrests a man named Murugan based on false evidence. After Murugan’s imprisonment and the tragic death of his wife, Gopinath secretly adopts Murugan’s infant son, Ravi, and raises him with his wife as their own. Years later, when Ravi learns the truth about his real father, and the injustice done to him, he sets out to uncover the truth and seek justice.
Renowned for his unrelenting dedication to the law, Justice Gopinath is a well-regarded judge. Though Radha, his wife, is expecting, a terrible disaster leads to her miscarriage. Gopinath hears Murugan's case, a destitute man unjustly charged with assault, at about the same time. Gopinath sentences Murugan to prison, misled by fraudulent evidence. Murugan's wife kills herself in jail after being persecuted by a nearby landlord, thereby leaving their little son Ravi an orphan. Feeling guilty, and grief-stricken over the inequity, Gopinath resolves to raise Ravi as his son without disclosing his true name.
Ravi becomes an accomplished attorney. Uma, a woman he falls in love with, and he intends to wed. Murugan is freed years later and starts looking for his son. Though Radha begs Gopinath to conceal the truth, he tells Ravi everything. Ravi is startled, but resolved to right the wrongs of the past. He discovers that Uma's father was the one who provided false evidence against Murugan. Ravi exposes him in court, vindicates Murugan's name, and brings father and son back together. Ultimately, justice triumphs and the family starts a new chapter based on truth and forgiveness.
