Konjam Pesinaal Yenna (2024)

“Konjam Pesinaal Yenna” is an upcoming 2024 Tamil-language romantic comedy directed by Giri Murphy and co-produced by Sameer Bharat Ram under the production house of Super Talkies. The lead actors are Vinoth Kishan and Keerthi Pandian. “Sanjana” (Keerthi Pandian) has been secretly crushing on “Ajay” (Vinoth Kishan) since childhood but never found the courage to confess. Years later, when she is in lockdown, she stumbles upon him online unexpectedly. The connection grows through night calls and online chats, but they never define their relationship. As their connection intensifies, they have to deal with their inner fear and what happened in the past that colored their perception of love. Can their virtual link be bridged in the physical world? The film explores modern-day relationships in a novel and innovative way. Sanjana is mature and understanding, while Ajay has emotional baggage, and therefore he pulls back from committing himself. His experiences in the past have warned him about relationships, and at times his actions are self-destructive. Sanjana, on the other hand, thinks positively and gives people an opportunity, even when Ajay becomes defensive or distant. Their different natures add charm as well as conflict to their relationship. The greatest strength of the film is the realistic dialogue and portrayal of romance in today's times. The lead pair seems to have genuine chemistry, so their journey reads well. Though the narrative of the film largely revolves around how they grow close, it stays away from complexities or artificial twists. The storytelling is smooth with an easy-breezy kind of watch. But the film is at its best when it focuses on its central love story. Efforts to provide emotional depth by including monologues or social commentary do feel a little misplaced. Minor flaws notwithstanding, “Konjam Pesinaal Yenna” is a warm rendition of love in the digital era, ending on a smile.
