“Lollipops” is a Tamil thriller film directed by Baalu Adusumilli, featuring Dhanya Balakrishna, Tridha Choudhury, Komalee Prasad, and Siddhi Idnani. Based on the 2017 Hollywood movie Rough Night, this tale is about four young women whose vacation turns dark and sinister.
The story revolves around four friends from Chennai, Dhanya, Tridha, Komalee, and Siddhi, who travel to Goa for the wedding reception of their friend. With the freedom to let go and have fun with complete freedom from responsibility, they drink a lot of alcohol, move around the city, and indulge with unbridled freedom. Seeking more thrills, they order a male stripper for a lark. But what begins as good-natured revelry quickly descends into chaos. At the party, an altercation between one of the girls and the stripper erupts into violence, and he is found dead.
Panic sets in, and the group chooses to cover up what has happened. They pack the body into a suitcase and dump it into a river in the hope that their secret will be forever buried. The next morning, they arrive back in Chennai, relieved to see coverage of a dead body discovered but not yet recognized. Their relief is short-lived when they receive a threatening SMS from an unknown individual who says that he knows everything. He blackmails them and asks for money in exchange for his silence.
With no option, the girls return to Goa and stay at the same hotel to locate the blackmailer. As they dig, things become intense, and they realize that the danger is closer than they ever imagined. Tension builds up as they struggle to untangle the nightmare in which they are trapped.
"Lollipops" is a comedy-thriller that falls short in originality. While the idea has potential, the script is uneven and some of the scenes feel forced. The acting is good, and the pace keeps the audience engaged, but the movie doesn't quite live up to its suspenseful idea.
