Synopsis

Love Matteru is a 2025 Kannada romantic drama directed by Viraata Bilwa, making his debut feature directorial effort. The film stars Sonal Monteiro, Achyuth Kumar, Suman Ranganath, Anita Bhat, Sushmitha, and Viraata Bilwa himself in significant roles. The film examines how love has changed, from slow and deep relationships to fast and fleeting relationships, and endeavours to explore what makes a relationship last. The story spans two timelines. In the first timeline, we find a couple whose relationship developed over time and occurred slowly - they had trust, patience, and investment. The couple have the gentleness, kindness, and unhurriedness of old-fashioned romance - love letters, little gestures, and deep emotional engagement. They have their bumps and bruises, but they stay together - these two have employed endurance and sacrifice, the qualities that made love a matter of endurance and sacrifice. The film's second timeline is about a modern couple whose relationship is ignited with instant attraction and experiences with social media. The chemistry is here, but both misunderstandings and a lack of serious commitment due to a lack of depth plague their connection. As the two timelines carry forward, the film brilliantly weaves together the two storylines and shows that love can flourish or decay depending on understanding, commitment and timing. Ultimately, the film ends on a sincere note that connects both stories and allowing the audience to think about their own experiences with love. Love Matteru is being released across Karnataka on August 1, 2025. Audiences should go see this film because it has two narratives, sincere performances and a relatable message about the nuances of love. It’s a story that connects the past to the present in a way that makes one ponder social matters while evoking all sorts of emotional responses.
