Under the direction of Karthikeyan Mani, Madras Matinee (2025) is a drama film from Kollywood. The film features Sathyaraj, Kaali Venkat, Roshini Haripriyan and Shelly Kishore. The film is about an ageing sci-fi writer who, urged by his caregiver, begins writing about Kannan, a humble tuk-tuk driver. The writer finds purpose again by watching Kannan's simple but important life, getting ideas from the everyday problems and the calm power of a regular guy.

Kannan is a tuk-tuk driver in a crowded city who works hard. Kannan lives simply with his wife and two kids, dealing with daily problems with a calm strength and a bit of fun. As the writer watches Kannan's day: like early morning drives, traffic, helping his kids with homework, taking care of his sick mom, he starts to care. He sees how Kannan deals with problems, enjoys small wins. Takes care of his family with a feeling of self-worth and even when things get hard.

The writer also meets people in Kannan's life and starts to see the point of keeping things simple. The writer is moved by Kannan's toughness and kindness, and he puts his all into the story. By the end, he not only finishes a touching book but also finds his own reason for living. The experience changes him, teaching him that even normal lives have courage, love and calm heroism. The movie wraps up with the writer's book called Kannan, which he gives to all the unsung heroes of everyday life.

Madras Matinee is a soft, thoughtful drama that honours the beauty in regular lives. The movie has a careful pace and tells a story that feels real, pulling viewers into a world where small things have big meaning. First-time director Karthikeyan Mani's caring style brings warmth and honesty to the screen. K.C. Balasarangan's music adds deep feeling, especially the great song “Enna Da Polappu Idhu,” strangely sung by Vadivelu, who isn't acting this time.
