"Marakkuma Nenjam" is a Tamil drama film of coming-of-age directed by Raako. Yoagandran, produced under Filia Entertainment Pvt Ltd. and Kuviyam Mediaworks. Rakshan, Dheena, and Malina feature in the film, and it explores second chances, nostalgia, and love.

The film is about 2008 students who are requested to go back to school and retake their final exams by surprise due to a court ruling. Now adults, they forsake their current lives, careers, and families to spend three months together in their old school. Of them, "Karthik" (Rakshan) still harbors sentiments towards his childhood love, "Priyadharshini" (Malina), even after ten years of estrangement. However, their old-time love story is not built on the emotional level, thus it becomes difficult for the audience to sympathize with Karthik's still-pungent sentiments.

While the film tries to balance laughter and emotional weight, the performance: especially by the leads fizzles out. Rakshan and Malina are not very successful at giving dimensions to their characters, leading the romance to feel unearned. The only exception is Dheena, as Karthik's best friend Salim, who is charming, bringing some much-needed finesse to the film.

The school scenes in flashbacks appear to be staged, with the adult cast members trying to play their high school selves more stiffly. The reunion scenes are improved, with some nice, touching moments.

Although "Marakkuma Nenjam" strives to be an emotional rollercoaster of love and nostalgia, it is undercut by unbalanced storytelling and below-par performances. The real high point is the score by Sachin Warrier, which perfectly captures the mood and feeling the film sets out to convey: frequently better than the film manages itself.
