Mirugaa

"Mirugaa" (2021) is an action thriller in Tamil by J. Parthiban, the production of which is done by Vinod Jain under the label of Jaguar Studios. The movie features Srikanth and Raai Laxmi and entwines a suspenseful narrative of a serial killer and man-eating tiger, both of whom are finding shelter in the same forest setting, thereby evoking a gripping and suspenseful atmosphere.

Against the idyllic settings of Iduppanai and Kotagiri, the film begins with a sequence of brutal tiger attacks that have terrorized the locals. A nefarious scheme by forest officials to hunt down and eliminate the killing beast is underway in the background. Aravind, or John (Srikanth), is a serial killer with ice in his veins who murders rich single mothers, murdering their beloved ones and inheriting their wealth. When he is committing one such heinous act, he is caught on camera by Subadhra, who resides in the neighborhood, and she starts blackmailing him. In exchange for her silence, she convinces him to burglarize the mansion of her estranged sister Lakshmi to rob her of her wealth and kill her.

However, once Aravind steps into Lakshmi’s (Raai Laxmi) lavish estate, he is awed by her immense wealth and decides to alter the plan. Impersonating a friendly visitor, he gains her confidence by putting up electric fences, CCTV cameras, and protective cages to secure her estate from the tiger attacks. While Lakshmi is none the wiser about the danger that lies within her own home, the man-eating tiger keeps on killing outside the estate.

The action comes in the third act, when the tiger and the killer's paths finally cross, leading to a tense climax where man and animal become one. With a twisty plot and a chilling setting, Mirugaa is an interesting mix of serial killer thriller and animal horror, which is a distinct type of action thriller.
