“Niyathi” is a 2024 thriller crime film directed and produced by Naveen Kumar. The film features Anjana Babu, Govinda Murthy Desai, and Naveen Kumar in main roles. The film is the story of a private detective whose case takes an ugly and unexpected turn, opening secrets of the past.
“Cheziyan”, a resourceful private investigator, is consulted by an elderly man who asks him to probe his daughter's affair with a college librarian. The moment he starts his investigation, the librarian drops dead in front of Cheziyan's car. Scared and not knowing what to do, he kills the body and buries it secretly so that he would not be suspected.
The following day, Cheziyan receives a threatening call from an unknown person, instructing him to go and bring back the body. Curiosity getting the better of him, he digs up the corpse and finds a secret memory card. What he learns on it is stunning, uncovering a sinister conspiracy of secrets. As he deciphers the clues, he needs to determine who is behind the threats and why they are threatening him.
The movie maintains the interest of the audience with its suspenseful plot and properly executed turns. Anjana Babu and Theni Murugan are good in their performances, particularly in emotional scenes. “Niyathi”, though, follows a tried-and-tested crime thriller template, especially during the second half, and is thus predictable at times. Though the idea is interesting, the movie could have presented a new spin on the genre.
