“Parking” is a Tamil thriller-drama film directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan, starring Harish Kalyan, M. S. Bhaskar, and Indhuja Ravichandran. The film follows the way a small altercation for a parking spot escalates into a dangerous revenge.
“Eshwar”, an IT professional, and his pregnant wife, “Aathika”, move into a rented house’s first floor. “Ilamparuthi” is a town clerk who lives in the downstairs apartment with his family. Their friendly relationship begins to deteriorate when Eshwar buys a car and causes harm to Ilamparuthi's previous grasp on the parking space. In mortal combat to reclaim sovereignty, Ilamparuthi buys a car himself, resulting in daily confrontations between the two.
What begins as a minor fight becomes hot competition. Ilamparuthi smashes Eshwar's car window, causing a fight that gets ugly. When Eshwar slaps him, enraged, Ilamparuthi retaliates by falsely charging him with harassment. Even when the case is dropped, Eshwar seeks his revenge by having Ilamparuthi accused of accepting bribes and suspended. Both of their wives and daughter appeal for peace, but the two men refuse to listen. Ilamparuthi goes so far as to damage Eshwar's car, causing him almost to get into an accident. In response, Eshwar destroys Ilamparuthi’s car, driving his wife and daughter away in frustration.
When tensions come to a boiling point, Aathika begins labor. Ilamparuthi hurries to assist, even though they are at odds. Eshwar, blinded by anger, plots to kill Ilamparuthi by releasing gas into his home. In time, he sees the goodness in Ilamparuthi and spares him, shocked at his own behavior. In the end, they are shown to have gone through the steps of correcting things, and accepting their mistakes.
“Parking” is an exhilarating story about ego and competition, and how a situation of mistaken communication can lead to a lifelong career war. The movie is layered with themes in reconciliation, regret, and the cost of being stubborn, just to leave the viewer with a meaningful lesson
